Beijing silver Medallist Matt Ryan is making an habit of taking on crazy challenges.
Last year Matt and fellow Australian rower Sam Loch broke the 24 hour Concept 2 rowing ergo World Record when they combined to row over 380km. Now Matt has roped in London bronze Medallist Karsten Forsterling to take on the challenge of clocking 1000km in 24 hours on a Watt Bike - the stationary bike of choice for elite athletes.
As the saying goes, shared joy is double joy, shared pain is half pain (or something to that effect) so Matt & Karsten have invited school teams and club athletes to join in the challenge to complete the 24 hours on either the Concept 2 rowing machine or Watt bike.
776BC founder Cameron McKenzie-McHarg is joining up with a number of Olympic rowers including James Tomkins, Francis Hegerty, James Marburg, Christian Ryan, Al Gordan and Ollie Webber to try and keep Matt and Karsten honest over the 24hours.
Fortunately all this madness is for a great cause, with teams raising donations for the Leukaemia Foundation. You can show your support by donating at (https://give.everydayhero.com/au/celebrity-team) and be sure to watch the action unfold next weekend kicking off at 10am on Saturday 30th and finished at 10am Sunday at the Melbourne University Boat Club.
