Jessica Fox, 24 has finished a stellar season with gold in both the Women’s K1 and C1 Slalom. This achievement not only makes her the most successful individual female ever in the sport but the most successful individual athlete ever following her wins, taking her total to nine.
This achievement ends the reign of her father who was previously the most successful individual athlete in the sport. Jessica also completes the double for the second time having previously won both the K1 and C1 at a previous World Championships.Jessica speaking to Paddle Australia said “This is an emotional win and it’s been a massive weekend and a massive year. It’s been the perfect season, the perfect world championships, I’m absolutely thrilled,”“Yesterday was really hard because I couldn’t appreciate what I had achieved because I had the C1 semis in the afternoon. But now all the emotion is there, it’s amazing to share it with everyone that’s here – my team, my family – I can’t wait to get home and celebrate.
The rest of the Australia contingent received mixed results across their events but will all use this as a positive stepping stone in the journey to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
