The rowing community descends on Melbourne this weekend for the Head of the Yarra.
One of Melbourne's premier rowing regattas the Head of the Yarra is held annually on the last Saturday of November. Featuring crews from school, masters and club categories the event is a drawcard for rowers across Australia.
Hosted by Hawthorn Rowing Club, the event has a long history with this years regatta being the 60th edition of the event founded in 1957. The event course extends over 8km, starting at the Boathouse Drive staging area in Melbourne's CBD and finishing at the Hawthorn Rowing Club.
The event is a head race run in a time trial format. With a mix of ages and abilities expect to see the fastest crews complete the course in around 25 minutes and the majority finishing between 30 and 40 minutes.This year's Head of the Yarra is on the 24th of November and starts at 9 am.
