JUSTIN BEST IS A OLYMPIAN, U23 WORLD CHAMPION AND HAS BEEN A NATIONAL ROWING TEAM REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE UNITED STATES SINCE 2015.
WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE YOUR SPORT?
I was in between sports when my parents watched "The Social Network" one summer evening. The Actor portraying the Winklevoss twins had a large upper body and figured I shared a similar build. (Little did we know!) I signed up for a learn to row camp later that summer and have been hooked ever since.
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE, AND WHY?
The 2018 World Rowing Under 23 Championships Men's 8+ final. We set a new U23 World's best time to cap off an amazing European trip.
WHAT'S BEEN YOUR TOUGHEST CHALLENGE YOU'VE HAD TO FACE IN YOUR SPORT AND WHAT DID IT TEACH YOU?
Trying to row at an internationally competitive level while going to a smaller college program. I learned that I needed to train smarter, with more effort and add more time than what I was doing with the team, to make up for the gap.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU? WHAT KEEPS YOU GETTING UP EVERY MORNING?
Knowing that life can be short and that pursuing something I am passionate about on a daily basis will give me fulfillment.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNGER ATHLETES ENTERING THE SPORT ASPIRING GREATNESS ON THE WORLD STAGE?
No matter the goal, keep persistent I your efforts and maximize the opportunities you have to improve your craft.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO OUTSIDE OF YOUR SPORT? INTERESTS? CAREER?
I work as an Analyst at a tech-focused Boutique Investment Bank based in San Francisco. I am passionate about finance and global business. I also enjoy watching movies and exercise outside of rowing.
